Way Too Much Fun… Way Too Early!

February 22, 2010

Did you know there is something called 5:20 AM?
I learned about it this morning, first hand. It’s a horrible, horrible, uncivilized thing, and God willing I will never had to confront it ever again.
The good news? The traffic is very light at that ungodly and cruel hour. Proof that the vast majority of people have common sense and are still in bed.
Frankly, I was a bit concerned that by time we got on the air on Breakfast Television that I would be nodding off, rather than talking about the Workshop.
Apparently those fears were groundless. Take a look.
The energy in the studio is so high, like ADHD central, I was flying. Weee!
This was the nicest group of people I’ve met in a very long time. I didn’t want to leave.
Once we got rolling I actually had to make sure I didn’t motor mouth. If you look carefully, you can spot me taking a breath and forcing myself to speak at a coherent speed.
I spoke to eight or nine people in the hour I was there.
And three of them told me about their ADHD.
Ah yes, when you find the right job, you can soar.
Work becomes so much fun that you’re actually willing to get up at 4:00 in the morning to be there.
Imagine!

Rick, Ava, Patrick-what a fabulous workshop on ADD on Saturday. I just LOVED it and would like to bring my children if you plan to repeat it. I believe several family members on Dads side has it and hope to learn more about the struggles we have with relationship, work or the wrong type of work but most of all managing ADD. The presentation of serious material combined with humour drives home the points. And the pace is excellent…not time to drift off in to another world. At the end of the day you give hope which has inspired me!
Thank you so much for producing the website, the workshop and the Documentary, ADD and Loving It!

Mattjoke- I am 54 and think I have adult ADHD, though I have not officially been diagnosed, based on the info on this site and others, plus my life experience. I am interested about hearing more about your dad who was diagnosed at 48 and how his diagnosis “profoundly changed his life” if you would be willing to share more details.

One of my sons, who is 18, has ADHD, and I have two other older children that I think may be affected.

Congrats to all Canadians on your gold medal hockey win from someone in the SE US!

This is going to revolutionize how people deal with ADHD. I am truly grateful

My name is Matthew and I was diagnosed on the same day that Stephen Harper was elected as Prime Minister of Canada (January 26th, 2010) — 4 years later I would be on the way to completing a degree in Political Science despite my ADHD. I am reluctant to say “despite” because I have noticed that my unconventional ways of tackling problems has been advantageous in so many ways. I am also an aspiring comic, so I am truly inspired to see you take the lead on this front.

I would love to engage more youth on this front. the 18-25 age group is important to reach out to because they are/have entered the workforce — which typically isn’t too kind to us ADHDers.

Over the Last 4 years my impassivity has this “average” Nova Scotian me on stage to open for professional stand-up comedians, Perform in over 500hrs of Community Theatre, Venture to South Africa for four months on a youth development internship and now to Vancouver for a trade show. Its not a disability, its a Diff-ability.

My dad, an RCMP officer for 20 years, was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 48 and it has profoundly changed his life and our relationship as father and son. There are many of these stories out there and the more we share within this network (in a safe and secure manner) the better it will be for everyone.

Is the reason why there is no verification security thingy, because you want people to let their impulsive ADHD thoughts flow into these blogs. haha it would be interesting to look at some of these posts over a long time. How does someone have a blog on TotallyADD. I would love to keep a blog associated with this site.

anyway, enough ranting for now. CANADA is going for GOLD

Good Night from Nova Scotland (scotia)

    Hello…

My name is Luc (yes it’s french) and I not only have ADHD, but also the following:
    a) I am bi-polar
    b) I am very depressed at times
    c) I had a massive heart attack Oct/02, therefore a heart bi-pass
    d) I have psychosis and I am a danger to others. Got it under control (as much as I can)

That is a total of FIVE things attacking my body and brain and sometimes it hurts alot. Never knowing if you will make it to the next day or next hour. But I have a lot of supportive family members helping me out and with this website explaining what some people need to have explained to them, its great.

I am glad that someone else had recognized that they have it also. Bravo Mr. Green and to all the people who are supporting you. I am sure it was a scary thing to find out you had, but with the help of your familly and friends, you will make it.

Well, I usually wrote so little, but now I can write a lot more, but time to sign off.

    Thanks for listening

I saw you on Breakfast Television on Monday and I’m so glad that I’ve found this site. I found out a few years ago that I was diagnosed as a child with ADD, but my Mom never shared that information with me until my daughter was diagnosed with ADD and my nephew was diagnosed with ADHD.
As I look through your site I am totally overwhelmed with emotion as I see myself in some of the examples. All my life I was called lazy, stupid, disorganized and it was always my fault that I couldn’t succeed in school. I’ve bounced around from one thing to another and haven’t been able to apply myself to any one thing for very long and for that I was always the family joke.
Thank-you so much for this site, for going on breakfast television and for sharing your struggles with the public like this. I am going to have to get a copy of ‘ADD and Loving It’ so that I can ensure that my daughter doesn’t struggle with the same problems that I did all my life.
